Partial Remission!!
Greetings family and friends. I am back from Hawaii and well rested. Although my health was not at 100%, I think that was one of the best vacations I have ever been on, and thats not including my honeymoon. It wasn't because of the sights or activities or food. It was because of the rest and peace, the tranquility and spending time with those that are closest to my heart, my husband, my mom and Ray who is Cary's best friend and always managed to keep me in stitches. Laughter is good for the soul and a must when one is trying to heal.As far as my health is concerned over all I did quite well on the trip. I rarely had to resort to using my oxygen tanks which was surprising considering how active we stayed. I soaked up alot of sun and swam in the beautiful, blue, warm water. It felt oh so good. We spent many nights star gazing. Saw many falling stars and made many wishes. Of course I spent lots of time pondering upon life, my life. Most importantly I returned back from Hawaii with a new attitude. I feel different about things and this disease I have. I returned feeling more positive and less fearful. Now honestly I don't know how long this will last or I am not saying that since I have returned I have not had one scary thought enter my mind. But I am definately not the basket case I was before.
I want to give a big thanks to all those who donated money to our trip. We were very surprised and touched by your offerings. Thank you for your help in making our trip even more special. And a special thanks to Steve and Kriseda for sharing with us your little home on the Big Island. What a difference it made in our life.
Now that I have shared with you details about our trip I will now explain to you the title of my post. Partial remission is what my new Dr. said with a smile on his face. In all the four years that I have been battling this disease have I never had a Dr. smile about my current condition nor use the words "partial remission." I was so exstatic. I had a Dr's appointment today and when my oncologist entered the room he was all smiles when he said you seemed to be very stable. He then took measurments of my liver which has shrank another 2cm. Then listened to my lungs and could not here that funny crackling noise. He said, "oh your lungs are expanding much farther than they have been." "Something is working," he said. He then says, "You are in partial remission." I then ask if we should do a CT Scan and he says, "sure if you like, but just by looking at you, feeling your liver and listening to your lungs I know this is working." But as I wish he will order me a scan. So as I write this post I am still in shock.
A miracle has happened here. I went from needing assistance with oxygen to being in partial remission (visualizing a full remission.)
So thank you everyone for your prayers or positive thoughts and please keep them coming. I want to visualize myself living not dying. I want remission and I am going to concentrate, meditate, and pray on that until it comes.
Well, I have had enough typing for one night but in a later I would like to recommend, to any cancer patient who is interested, a diet that I have been on for about six months now (see references below.) I do believe it is playing a significant role in my recovery. If you're anything like me you might be thinking, ya, right whatever. But because I was basically out of options I tried it more out of desperation and well I find myself believing in it.
Till later
RESOURCES ON LORI'S DIET: Hi, this is Cary :) Since some of Lori's readers are desperatley fighting to survive this disease I thought it would be prudent to point you all towards some resources on the Budwig Diet, which we believe to be the main reason for Lori's current improvement–-you should note, however, that she is also receiving one of the last traditional treatments available to her, Avastin.
There are two inexpensive books in particular that explain the revolutionary work of German Biochemist Johanna Budwig. One describes her research and why the diet works as it does, and the other describes how to actually put the diet into practice. They are available at Amazon, but you can probably find them elsewhere as well.

Cancer: The Problem And The Solution
There is also a recent study by Univeristy of Nevada Biochemist Ron Pardini, who managed to cure his elderly neighbor of terminal lung cancer via a diet very similar to Budwig's––and he'd never even heard of Budwig. I'm including a PDF file of the entire study, including CT-scans, and full dietary info. Very impressive stuff.
Nutritional Intervention With Omega-3 Fatty Acids in a Case of Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma of the Lungs
Here's another great research paper by Pardini examining the positive effects that omega-3 fatty acids can have on the effictiveness of various cancer treaments, including a number of different chemotherapeutic agents and radiotherapy.

All the best,
–Cary
